De Gonnagles

The Gonnagles is a lively folk collective consisting of young and enthusiastic Dutch musicians. Their interesting repertoire consists of pieces composed and arranged by the members themselves, based on the Flemish and French balfolk tradition, which means that all tunes are based on traditional folk dances. Although some of these dances originate from the middle-ages, the Gonnagles are able to write their tunes based on a new kind of ‘modern folk’ which goes from ‘creative’ all the way to ‘bizar’. All kinds of Western (Irish, French) and Eastern European (Balkan, klezmer) folk can be recognized in their compositions. The Gonnagles have performed on many stages through Europe and everywhere people where delighted to be able to dance at their music. But not only are the Gonnagles responsible for the music, they also often take care of workshops for people to learn the different dances, varying from one hour ‘crash-courses’, to multiple our workshops where all kinds of details and variations of the dances are learned. Some festivals the Gonnagles have performed, are (a.o.): Folk'n'Fusion 2005-2010 (DE), Castlefest 2007 (NL), Folkwoods 2008 (NL), DAMADA 2009 (FR), Orfest 2009 (NL), Leipzig Tanzhausfest 2010 (DE), Rudolstadt TFF 2010 (DE). The Gonnagles are a foolish, but above all very talented collective. Their succeed in mixing wild party music with modest moments of beautiful music.
